Years ago, when AIDS was first discovered, many of us were told, we were going to die .
Here we are , many years later,...still living.

Members opened up deeply about whether HIV and other illnesses have made them confront their mortality, with many sharing that while early diagnoses felt like death sentences, modern medications have granted unexpected years of life and shifted their relationship with death from fear to acceptance. Several members described finding peace through faith in Jesus Christ and the hope of eternal life, while others expressed that their greatest fears are not death itself but dying alone, suffering needlessly, or leaving loved ones behind, with one member poignantly sharing how caring for his dog Rocky gives him purpose and reason to keep living. A recurring theme was gratitude for the time they have been given, a commitment to living fully in the present, and the understanding that death is a natural part of life, with many choosing to focus on loving others, finding meaning through service, and facing the inevitable with grace rather than fear.

I just pay it forward. I donate, volunteer, and bake for my neighbors. All that after a 10 hour day. Not complaining, just the joy in people's faces gives me meaning, purpose, and strength.

I've been HIV+ since 1984, diagnosed with anal cancer in 2021, have come close to death from both with short time of diagnoses. I believe that my positive mind set and knowing I am going to keep putting one foot in front of the other all will be as it is meant to be. I'm good where I am and okay with where I have been.
