Members shared honest and heartfelt responses about how HIV and its treatments have affected their appearance, with many noting belly fat, facial wasting, weight changes, hair loss, and skin changes as the most common concerns. Several members shared helpful strategies including human growth hormone injections for wasting, appetite-suppressing medications like Victoza and Ozempic for weight management, testosterone therapy for hormonal changes, and regular exercise and high-protein diets to maintain muscle. A recurring theme was learning self-acceptance, with many members reminding each other to be kind to themselves and celebrate still being here.

Yeah, not that happy with my looks. But most people, HIV or not, fight against the normal effects of aging. Sadly, ageism is more prevalent within the gay community. That makes me less accepting of my own aging. I'm single... the ageism causes me to feel hopeless about finding a mate. Besides the wrinkles and aging skin, my bit of belly is a sore point with me. I envy those guys who can eat whatever they want and still maintain a flat stomach. 🙄

I am satisfied with the way I look because I have no choice with natural aging I am becoming refined. The way I appear is not a result of living with HIV for 38+ years yet I have the power in me to be a gym rat and become Adonis but I haven't the desire to live in vanity always trying to present myself the way I think people should see me. Narcissism is not part of my repertoire.
