Members opened up about how HIV, medications, age, and emotional factors have all affected their sex drive, with many describing challenges like low testosterone, difficulty maintaining erections, and diminished spontaneous arousal. Several members shared practical strategies that helped them, including testosterone replacement therapy, daily tadalafil or Viagra, regular exercise, switching or adjusting antidepressants, and using toys or self-pleasure as part of self-care. A recurring theme was the importance of not giving up hope, recognizing that intimacy and desire often flourish in the context of emotional connection and love, and understanding that a fulfilling sex life is still possible with patience, creativity, and self-compassion.

Lost? No. Maybe a bit diminished. But still raring to go at a moments notice. 😅😆😁

@A myHIVteam Member - So many things can affect sex drive... medications, general health, depression, relationship changes, HIV infection, etc. I have been affected by all of these at one time or another. I know that under the right circumstances my sex drive will rise to the occasion. Spontaneous arousal becomes more difficult with age and circumstances.

@A myHIVteam Member. As you get older, spontaneous erection not so much. But, if you meet a guy that you find appealing, I think you'll find that your body doesn't let you down. Remember that there are plenty of groovy options regardless of a fickle erection. Manual stimulation can lead to some rockin' orgasms, and you don't have to be young to give them or receive them. Don't fear intimacy. Enjoy it. 🤠

I started having problems years ago so I got tested by an endocrinologist. It resulted in low testosterone so I currently inject twice a month and it has helped immensely.😀😜🤣

@A myHIVteam Member. I get it. Lots of mixed messages and mixed up feelings. I was 24yrs old. I had just come out about a year before, finally okay having sex with men ( more than ok, actually ). Boom HIV infection. I was in a confusing relationship, sexually, involving substances. Then methadone, a sex drive killer. Testosterone low for 15yrs, now supplemented since 2005. Viagra, gives you the ability, but not the urge. Older partner, finding ways to make sex still viable. It's a long and winding road, and I am not finished with it yet. We all have to make our own decisions about what is right for us. Just don't give up on something that you enjoy/ enjoyed, especially not because of HIV.
