I’ve been completely negative almost totally for the past 28 years. I know the virus likes to hide, but if I was to stop taking medication today after so many years. How many years do you think it take before I got sick again. Has anybody been through this?

Members responded with concern and urgency to the question about what would happen if someone stopped taking HIV protease inhibitors after 28 years of being undetectable, with the strong consensus being that the virus can rebound very quickly. Several members shared personal experiences, including one who stopped their medication for 10 years and ended up hospitalized with PCP Pneumonia, and others who emphasized staying consistent with meds over decades. A recurring theme was that cost concerns are real, but stopping treatment carries serious health risks.

Very quickly. Stay on your meds. It's keeping you alive. Been going strong for 38 years and can count the number of times I missed my medication on one hand.
