Landscaping Bill

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭
Sierra Vista, AZ

Not exactly an HIV related question, but there is a great deal of wisdom and life experience here, so I will give it a shot.

I had some work done on my property. The mesquite trees here get laden with mistletoe. It's a parasite that spreads tree to tree, and will ultimately kill the tree.

I needed 35 trees cut, which meant cut off sections of the tree with mistletoe. No attempt made to make the tree even, just cut it out.

It took 3 guys 5 hours. I thought they did a bang up job. They… read more

Members rallied around someone facing an unexpectedly doubled landscaping bill for mesquite tree mistletoe removal, with the overwhelming advice being to contact the company directly to dispute the charges before involving an attorney, and several sharing their own experiences of negotiating down to a middle ground or learning hard lessons about getting multiple estimates upfront. Many members questioned whether a signed contract existed and whether adjustments should work both ways, while others expressed sympathy for the shock of being charged nearly $1,150 per hour for three workers on what seemed like a straightforward five-hour job. A recurring theme was the frustration of feeling taken advantage of by service providers, the importance of having everything in writing before work begins, and the grace needed to accept costly mistakes while planning how to move forward financially.

Did you have a written contract. If not why should you pay added amount. Can they place a lien on your property

Any due diligence before handing the money over? Anything in writing?
(Estimates, contracts, research, reviews, BBB?)

Talk to the company and explain your issue with work and bills. Let them know you would like to resolve the before you have to have an attorney involved. First tell them you will not pay the difference, and see where that gets you, when I had an issue like this we met in the middle and had to pay half. If you can not resolve it, either pay or talk to an attorney.

@A myHIVteam Member. Silver and gold are commodities like oil or coffee. Their value goes up and down. They only have the value you can get for them at the time of sale. Whether the family silverware, or silver and gold coins, or silver and gold commodities in the stock market, sale value is often disappointing.
