Concern About The Government Knowing I'm Hiv Poz.
A myHIVteam Member asked a question πŸ’

IQuestion: does anyone else have concerns, besides me, about the government, both state and federal having information about my hiv status? Who has access to it and how could it be used against me in the future
I've never been comfortable with people in power having this much information about me. It's all fine now but with hundreds of anti-lgbtq legislation being passed in my and other states how long before that level of discrimination get down to us people living with hiv? If… read more

I agree with Cynthia. I myself was an AIDS activist back in the day and we march with Larry Kramer and many others including Elizabeth Taylor. The disgraceful behavior and bills that are appearing in red aligned States is unfathomable. Never in the history of the lgbtq community have we had this kind of discrimination. Fortunately, States like New York, California and Illinois are highly blue and we take care of the LGBT community. Thank You For Fighting the laws in Florida and bringing awareness to the lgbtq community because I am afraid that the governor there will destroy our community. So we must fight back and protect certain sectors in the States where lgbtq people live.πŸ€ŽπŸ’œπŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ§‘β€ and as far as the programs Tom I have been, unfortunately, in the program's , for many years and I trust them wholeheartedly. It's the governors of these red states, who are seriously , in question.

Tom,
I think you bring up a great concern. We need people like yourself to think about it. I recall a time, that is something that an Aids Activist named Larry Kramer would have considered. It sounds like you are in a better mental place after speaking to the administrators of ADAP and Ryan White. The anti LGBTQ- legislation is meant to minimize our existence and humanity. Minimizing the subject of sexual orientation and gender identity is not okay. So many young children are suffering in the transgender/ non binary communities that are not getting access to medical treatment.

Keep up the good discussions !

I hope all is going for you, your wife, and your bf. ❀️

Follow up to my questions. I called and spoke to the administrators for both the ADAP and Ryan White program in my state (Florida) and after conversations with them I feel a little better about how our information is handled.
I still do not like that the fact my HIV status is being held in government hands but the safeguards in place at this time are pretty good. Let’s hope nothing changes.
@A myHIVteam Member I agree with you that the LGBTQ community is not exactly HIV Supportive as they could be.

My biggest concern is the serophobia that remains prevalent, especially in gay communities. There are several examples of HIV positive people being discriminated against and facing prejudice in social situations within the gay community. It troubles me that so many people are disingenuous about their true attitudes regarding HIV and people who are positive, a lot of people pretend to be understanding but their actions reflect their true attitudes.

Well I think our government state or country government does not need to know about people that our HIV positive, I know hear all that stuff about us LGBTQ people , but remember don't be scared , this is not the 1980,s anymore alot people see hiv as a bad virus that kill alot good people and are sad about it , relax I think people are more sad by hiv and feel its high time for a cure relax I think it will never get bad for LGBTQ people or hiv positive people ,
