Anabolic Steroids / Testosterone Replacement Therapy For Muscle Gain To Reduce Wasting -- Any Men Try This?
A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

In my research to find an alternative solution for the low energy levels and fatigue I experience as a result of this diagnosis, I came across this book titled "Built to Survive" by (the now deceased) Michael Mooney and Nelson Vergel.

To be brief, the information and research that is referenced in the book is dated, some of it 30+ years old, and this was written during the time when wasting was a huge untreated or mistreated symptom of the virus.

I'm curious if any men have previously used… read more

I am currently injecting both anabolic steroids and testosterone due to wasting and a decrease in muscle mass and energy. These were prescribed by a doctor for wasting years ago and as I've tried to get off of them I slowly have to return to them due to the reduction of testosterone production and wasting. They are quite expensive and must be administered by a doctor who sees more than a 5 to 10% decrease in body mass overall and a decrease in your testosterone levels. These injections are not to be taken lightly as they do cause some overall bone aches and so forth. Please consult with your doctor and have your levels checked if you think you qualify he or she will talk to you about these options.

Been on testosterone replacement therapy since 2000. Taking for weight and muscle maintenance due to wasting syndrome. As someone said, if you do go on it have your blood checked every three to six months, in particularly your hemoglobin and hematocrit. I have a blood disease Eurythrocytosis which makes my blood thick doctors feel is caused by the testosterone. Otherwise it has worked well for me!

Due to the covid virus I have canceled my gym membership at LA fitness. I will resume my fitness in the summer for now I walk and use my bike. I do see an overall positive change in the fillers in my face hands legs and the lean body mass. Unfortunately like any other drug it all comes with a price. It's makes me feel very achy at times sometimes to the point that I need to lay down. But overall you must keep on top of it by having your blood looked at every 3 months by a doctor... 💙😊🙏👍

I’ve been taking testosterone replacement therapy for 10 years, long before my HIV diagnosis. I would recommend it to any man over 40. It gives me a feeling of well being, keeps me thin, and improves my energy and libido. I’m 54 and people think I’m 10 years younger.
I bought the testosterone from a friend for a few years, but now I see a doctor so that my bloodwork can be monitored. I also think that being on testosterone has helped me avoid falling into a deep depression following my HIV diagnosis last year. I highly recommend it.

@A myHIVteam Member Thank you for sharing your experience and for giving some insights into the qualifications for treatment, the cost and some of the side effects as a result.

Do you train with weights regularly to build muscle? Have you seen favorable results in your body composition and also your energy?
