New Covid Vaccine Safety For Those With HIV:

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

According to the latest report on CNN, the new Pfizer vaccine is still being looked at as safe or effective for those with autoimmune issues like HIV. Apparently they are currently studying the effect of the vaccine on patients with HIV.

I have not talked with my HIV doctor about it as I just heard. Does anyone else have any information about this!

Thanks, and happy holidays!

Members shared mixed guidance from their doctors about the new COVID vaccine for people with HIV, with some advised to get it immediately based on higher CD4 counts or comorbidities, while others were told to wait due to lower CD4 levels or recent cancer treatment. Several members reported firsthand experiences with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, noting minimal side effects beyond a sore arm, and one member even participated in the Pfizer vaccine trial with no issues. A recurring theme was the importance of consulting with individual HIV care teams to assess personal eligibility, as the FDA approved the vaccine as safe for most people with HIV unless their CD4 count is below 200.

I’m back to work on Tuesday (finally), working in the clinical trials unit. Fortunately we were chosen as one of the few UK hospitals to administer the vaccine and started giving them last week.
Personally I will have the vaccine when I get back. I know we currently have various Covid trials on the go, I need to get myself back up to speed with the protocols, I’ll send across any relevant info I find that I can.

Happy holidays too!

Guys. I have to admit. I'm on the fence about this one. My next ID appt is Feb. 2021. I feel, by then maybe we'll have a better idea of any safety issues.
