@A myHIVteam Member housing assistance like section 8, is for anyone who is low income and yes there is a long waiting list. HOPWA (short for housing opportunities for people with aids) is ONLY for people with HIV/AIDS and you can have assistance the SAME DAY. Only your medical case manager can refer you to your local HOPWA office, you can not make an appointment on your own. Hopwa can also help with utilities (heating, electric, water), some other personal bills, and possible clothing. Each office has different help, but all help with housing, and utilities.

you have to be referred to the housing assistance by your medical case manager. I have used it a few times. The place I go to helps with housing, which includes electric, heat, water. They have paid my phone before as well. Last fall, they helped me buy some new clothes for the winter as well.

@A myHIVteam Member I have used Ryan White housing assistance. They paid my rent for a couple of months. Check with your local health department and ask to be assigned a case manager. Pastor David

How does it work? I tried for housing assistance in the past. But it takes months and years here in Chicago. Is Hopwa something different?
