Larry Kramer, Trailblazing AIDS Activist Dies At 84:

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭
Seattle, WA

As a long termer diagnosed in the 80's watching my friends die left and right, and fearful I would be next, I always took solace knowing Larry was there fighting for our survival. I took part in some of his activism through ACT UP during the days Reagan would not acknowledge HIV/AIDS or give any funding because it was known only as a Gay Disease. Larry leaves a tremendous legacy for all that are living with HIV/AIDs.

As CNN reports, "Larry died in the timespan of our current pandemic, and… read more

Members came together to honor the life and legacy of Larry Kramer, the trailblazing AIDS activist who died at 84, with many expressing deep gratitude for his fearless advocacy during the darkest days of the HIV/AIDS crisis when the government refused to act. Several members shared personal connections to Kramer's work through ACT UP and GMHC, recalling how his activism in the 1980s laid the groundwork for the treatment options and support systems that exist today, even for those diagnosed decades later. A recurring theme was profound respect and love for a man whose courage, anger, and refusal to be silent gave the HIV community not only hope but a fighting chance at survival.

He is a legend for all of us, whether we had HIV or AIDS back in the 1980s or not. I myself did not have HIV or AIDS back then, but I am so thankful for the work he did for everyone who did and for those of us who were diagnosed later for without him I don't know if we would have as many options as we do in anti-virals. He is a true legend and should never be forgotten. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Larry.
