COVID 19 And The Effects On Relationships
A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

As people self isolate the strain on personal relationships between friends begin to show. Do you find that friends you used to hang out with is breaking the bonds that held that relationship together. Communication is failing, phone calls become non existent, emails less and less and all to do with not being able ton interact with them. I try to keep in touch with them but it falls on death ears. It is my hope that this is the virus that is driving us apart and nothing I have done. What… read more

There are ways to stay connected (social media, video calls, and using a private FB page for members only). However, I guess it could depend on whether certain people have reasons beyond their control affecting them to remain in contact. It doesn't mean you have done something wrong - it could be that their personal situations are affecting them to a point where they do not check emails or return calls. I know when I have a lot of stuff going on in my life at a given moment, I remove the stressors like answering emails, messages and checking my social media accounts. This helps me decompress so I can handle what is most pressing at the moment and setting aside the stuff I feel I don't want to deal with (and sometimes that's communication unfortunately). However, I do eventually reach out and apologize for not getting back sooner. If they love and respect you, they will understand. It could be the virus that has everyone preoccupied, or it could be they are out of a job and worried about bills, or it could be they are now working from home and home schooling kids all day while they work. I would probably be too mentally exhausted to return calls or find time to stay engaged. Don't take it personal. Things could always turn around. Have a great day.

I'm grateful that I keep in contact with family and my church family. I talk to someone and can call my Pastor and other clergy anytime!

I have to agree. In this day of technology there's no reason why people cannot effectively stay connected. I too use zoom and celebrate birthdays and other events with family on there. 💛💙💚❤️🌈

It's difficult in my case many of my friends are from the three different churches I work with. Zoom helps with some, but it's not a hug or handshake. I wonder, in the church I serve, how many will return once it's safe? Also so many depend on the food that we serve at our free community dinner, starting next Sunday we are asking them to tells us how many meals and are setting up a drive thru pick-up. We are still doing meals on wheels but with a very small group of volunteers, I love to cook so I'm doing that and another couple come in and serve the portions, then box each route to be picked up for delivery 78 went out yesterday. I know God will see us through, so no matter what you believe know that we will make it through stronger!! LOVE ALWAYS WINS!! Pastor David
