For those with HIV and in the LGBT community... have the current HIV policies in your State or Country...cause you anxiety and concern about your future? What are your concerns about the healthcare system in relation to your health insurance and medications?

Members shared deeply personal concerns about navigating health insurance with HIV, with many expressing anxiety about coverage gaps, high medication costs, and inconsistent state-by-state access to programs like Ryan White and ADAP. Several members described practical strategies that have helped them, including using pharmaceutical patient assistance programs, working with case managers to maintain Medicaid or Medicare coverage, applying for supplemental plans during open enrollment, and utilizing tools like GoodRx for uncovered medications. A recurring theme was the stark disparity in care depending on location and income, with some members enjoying comprehensive state support while others face isolation, unaffordable premiums, and the exhausting reality of choosing between financial stability and necessary treatment.

Not me personally. Yesterday I learned that 1,200 of Pennsylvania PLWH and on SPBP (our ADAP program) are uninsured. Our Division of HIV has been trying to work with insurance companies to pay health insurance premiums from the Affordable Care Act on behalf of these 1,200 PLWH. Between the state's legal dept and the health insurances they cannot agree on legal language to come to agreement on third party payment of last resort. HORRIBLE! We are only one of a handful of states that cannot get this done. We are exploring legislative options to make this change to help our people. Barriers like this should not exist in health care!
