Several Days Missing Medication

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭
Vallejo, CA

As you guys mostly know, I went to Hawaii and I came back Monday. But Sadly Monday was the last time I actually took my medication biktarvy. So Tuesday and Wednesday I didn't take it. But I keep myself cover by take my b-12 pills and everything else. I just now got my meds refilled today.
The question is what will happen if I miss a couple days of my biktarvy? Will I be in danger? My last doctor visit I was still undetected, will that change even though I missed two days?

Members reassured someone who missed two days of Biktarvy while traveling that a short lapse is unlikely to cause major harm, though it may temporarily show in lab results, and emphasized the importance of getting back on schedule immediately to prevent drug resistance. Several members shared practical strategies for avoiding gaps, including ordering refills every 28 days instead of 30 to build up a small buffer supply, setting up automated refills, and keeping a backup stock on hand for emergencies or travel. A recurring theme was the critical need to maintain consistent dosing at the same time daily, as HIV can become resistant if treatment is frequently interrupted, with members urging proactive communication with care teams and careful planning to prevent future lapses.

as I've answered before you cannot miss a regiment keep it back supply you need to take your meds the same time every day you need to eat right and exercise a little bit this is easiest Rikki Don't let it get you I care about you too much one love reach me 24 hours a day

Hi , I’ve missed. A few days in a row myself.. and went to detectable however later when I made sure I was taking my meds daily . I went back to undetectable you should be fine. Just remember if you do that often it could lead to drug resistance. I have not gotten to that point but I know someone who has.

The reason is that the only give me 30 days at a time. And also they can't give me extra because I'm on the SSA/mediCal insurance basically. If I order more early they will charge me a handful with a can't afford.

What I don't understand is why do you not have any extra meds on hand for such things as this? It is not just you, but I see a lot of American citizens say they miss doses because they ran out. I currently have 13 days of open meds and another 4 months of meds not opened yet and my pharmacy is going to be calling me today for my next refill. I will be happy to tell anybody who wants to know how I have stocked up on my prescriptions ------ and legally too.
