Because we have a foot in both the straight AND gay community BISEXUAL men have faced a higher level of stigma for having HIV. Most of the resources for HIV deals with the gay community or is targeted towards the gay community. The HIV+ straight community feels left out in so many ways when dealing with this disease. How can the gay community bring more openness, and more resources to the positive straight community? Yes. Id like to know same thing. I was lucky in 2004 to meet husband on a hiv dating site. He passed in 2014.
In the 80's and 90's in the absence of effective antiretroviral therapy, is was often thought that one with HIV suffers a social death prior to the actual physical one. As a long termer I saw this happen over and over with my friends who were sick, friends wouldn't come around much, and sometimes family would take no interest except in the estate once one dies. I’m curious if anyone else is surprised by these statistics
I was reading this survey of LGBTQ+ Americans and there are some very surprising (at least to me) numbers in it
For starters bisexuals, who I identify as, make up 4% of the overall population. That means 1 in 25 Americans is Bi.
The surprises didn’t end there. We also make up 57% of the public that identifies as LGBTQ+.
That’s more than Gay 21%, lesbians 14%, transgendered 10% and other 4% percentages COMBINED.

Young gay and bisexual men in Kenya experienced high levels of stigma and discrimination in public healthcare facilities, while reporting more positive experiences in private and gay-friendly clinics. Online interventions were seen as a way of catering to priority needs and reducing stigmatising experiences, according to a recent qualitative study.

Are there services that the gay community gets, that the straight community doesn't? Is it harder for straight positive women to get services or needs that the gay community get easily? Start by taking the shame out of HIV. I don't judge blood pressure and diabetes folks. Focus on health and where to get treatment.
I've found that anyone I tell other than professionals has to tell someone and then someone else tells someone else. My ex went through my whole phone book telling the world about me.
