I don’t know if I’m glad to see the show open up conversations on HIV/AIDS or annoyed for the misinformation. Do others feel just as confused?

@A myHIVteam Member like you that’s all I knew as well. Was taught that aids was associated with gay men and prostitution. My cousin hair dresser died of aids in the early 90’s (I blamed it on medication complication) and my cousin who’s a tour guide in Thailand died of aids. Imagine, how I felt learning of my diagnosis. This affects all of us. We can only educate others ourselves. Shows in tv just want ratings

Thanks all. I think for me it was just frustrating to see such a great platform once again mislead the public. I hadn’t watched the last 2 seasons but I specifically watched it because my cousins and sister were affected by Justin’s story and I couldn’t understand why. I have disclosed to all of them. When I saw the show it made sense why they were so triggered and reacted so sadly to it. I’m glad I can clear their misconceptions but at the same time it did frustrate me that the stigma was perpetuated.

Yeah @A myHIVteam Member and since my cd4 was only 29 i was like welp this is the end of me. And then that show did that made it even worse. Then i read and got to know people on here of theirs being lower and now theyre fine. Its just crazy what people will do for ratings. I wont stand for it or give them a view. Have a great day beautiful!

I actually enjoyed the first season and didn’t like the stigmas involved. His character is a young bisexual male, who was abused at the hands of his mother’s boyfriend, turned to drug use, prostitution and killing him off with aids. It didn’t sit well with me. They the writers and producers, had the opportunity to educate and made an awareness that people living with hiv and aids are able to live a productive life With proper medication. What’s worst is the actor said he basically studied videos of people with aids and that where he drew his experience from.

Thanks guys. (Insert spoiler here) last episodes of season 4 one of the main characters is diagnosed with HIV and dies from complications of it. In the series they say his drug use and homelessness is what made the virus advance so quickly. Maybe a couple of years since contraction. I’m happy they mention it and that they are so supportive of the character but I’m also afraid it keeps that stigma and misinformation going. They did mention prep and how condom use prevented other characters from being infected but I wish they had done something else with the story like how we all survive and stay strong with proper medication.
