I have been poz for 11 years and in the last 5 years been trying to find a partner. Every ti e I tell they run for the hills.
I am flabbergasted about how misinformed professionals are when you tell then they should be using gloves to work on you and when you tell them you have HIV they turn ashen and reach for the latex gloves. Read a persons medical information on the file before you deal with a patient.
Its personal. Each case depends on the 2 involved. Lots of love..you'll find LOVE....hugs
even in today's times a lot of people still are using or going on information about hiv/aids from the 1980s. Even doctors, nurses, and dental hygienists! When I had my teeth cleaning two weeks ago a new hygienist was working on me. she was taken aback when I asked her about oral care and hiv. The conversation went something like this:
The first thing she asked me was, "If you don't mind me asking, how much time did the doctors give you to live?"
My reply, "They didn't give me a time frame on how much longer I will live, only a time frame of how much longer I would live if I didn't get on medication right now."
them, "oh so you didn't want to know how much more time you had?"
me, "well the answer to how much more time do I have to live would be like asking you, "How much more time do YOU have to live?""
She was confused and I had to explain it, then tell her about cd4s, viral loads, detectable, undetectable. She had no clue, and she went to school! They should be teaching this stuff in dentistry school since people will be bleeding when they get procedures done. By the way, she graduated 5 years ago. If one is not educated, they will not know the current information on hiv/aids and will run for the hills.
I never figure out I will be back out here on the Bush and blot searching for someone to date on when you tell him they do run they say they will give you a call back and don't.
And I don't understand that
